The BLACK Program (Building Leaders & Activists with Collective Knowledge) is a culturally grounded education program led by Tyson Amir of Freedom Soul Media Education Initiatives (FSMEI).

Tyson will work with our students monthly through the end of the school year, providing opportunities to strengthen student voice, leadership, and cultural awareness.

BLACK Program - October 2026

Freedom Soul Media Education Initiatives (FSMEI)

Oct 27, 2026 Our October BLACK Program session at Edendale, dedicated to the Black Panther Party in its 60th anniversary year (founded October 1966). Five classes across second through sixth period, with solid groups of 16 to 20 students and so much learning. Some groups even chose which way we studied the party — general history or a specific chapter of it — and students were ready: attentive, engaged, asking great questions all day. The monthly rhythm of the BLACK Program is setting in; students know this is a consistent part of their school experience now, and they come prepared and hungry to learn about themselves and their history. Back in two weeks to finish out 2026 strong.
